SCORES EP

Over the course of several months, musician and sound artist Veith von Tsozhousn has rearranged, tested and recorded the four tracks for this EP over and over. However, the experience was not stressful but rather meditative; it allowed him to gradually unpack the idea – to then reach the point where all the pieces finally fell into place. A one-take with no editing. The result includes three recordings and a bonus track. Modular ambient, growing and evolving Musique Concrète; a long, deep flow.

Von Tsotzhousn spent over one and a half years creating field recordings, recording musicians and moulding the resulting samples. He then played the result as a live set on his modular synthesizer. Every recording is underpinned by one central idea. In Dark Flowes, for example, Marie Block’s singing transforms into a floating element that runs through the entire song. Drop of Honey includes birds singing in the garden during the beginning of the first lockdown as if nothing had happened. The starting point for Cloud Chambers was the ROBOLINK RL-D-30-A0171: a mechanical turntable that set the pitch. Creating the bonus track Hymn to Paradox involved the subtraction of three different sets of MIDI data from the already finished audio track. This data was then interpreted by a digital piano. The piece basically plays an interpretation of itself.

As if enclosed by a cocoon, the sounds develop in Von Tsotzhousn’s mind to surface at just the right time. It is all about evolution.
